The primary role of the Tornado Senior Obsolescence and Supportability Engineer (KAAB – King Abdul Aziz Air Base) is to monitor, understand and quantify the operational impact of SBDCP (Saudi British Defence Co-operation Programme) Tornado & Support Equipment obsolescence and supportability issues affecting the Royal Saudi Arabian Airforce’s (RSAF) mission capability at KAAB, including TPDM (Tornado Programme Depot Maintenance). Following quantification of the supportability issues; investigate, define and prioritise potential support solutions and strategies to the SBDCP UK Tornado Obsolescence and Supportability Manager to enable focussed investigations for presentation, assessment and acceptance by the RSAF customer. Direct line management will be via the KAAB Tornado Support Manager. The job holder is also responsible for all of the training and mentoring activities in relation to the RSAF trainees.
Understand engineering issues relating to support of Aircraft and Support Equipment and provide day-to-day engineering liaison with KAAB base agencies and TPDM. From within own sphere of responsibility; provide guidance to the SBDCP Tornado Support Manager in making support strategy recommendations to the RSAF customer.
Provide support to the SBDCP Supportability Team, including LOA7 and UK representatives in matters of Tornado Aircraft and Support Equipment technical understanding and ensure integration and function of processes within the SBDCP support chain.
Support production of Aircraft and Support Equipment Support Reports to an agreed specification ensuring approved, detailed and accurate information is provided from KAAB to the UK JOSWG (Joint Obsolescence and Supportability Working Group) team to assist customer information and assessment.
Monitor progression of potential support solutions against plans to ensure all requirements are met and that actions are taken in a timely and effective manner in response to any issues or problems.
Manage own elements of investigation and co-ordination of Aircraft and Support Equipment reliability, maintainability and affordability data for inclusion in logistic modelling tools.
Contribute to team planning, risk management, and quality and safety to support the effective functioning of the team.
Keep up to date in relevant technical areas and develop skills and capabilities to be able to provide more effective services.

Evaluate in-service technical issues in order to quantify impact on customer operations
Contribute to developing, maintaining and modifying SBDCP support chain processes and procedures in response to technical developments and SBDCP business needs.
Produce supportability reports and presentations for delivery to senior RSAF and MOD personnel at Obsolescence meetings in UK and KSA as required
Maximise potential support business opportunities by generating customer confidence in the SBDCP support processes.
Degree qualified or equivalent practical in-service support experience in a Support Engineering or aircraft discipline, as well an extensive amount of relevant experience
Meets the requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council and preferably is a member of a relevant professional body
Has experience of some or all aspects of Aircraft & Support Equipment lifecycle and through life engineering issues associated with design, development, definition, acquisition, production, deployment, commissioning, maintenance, operation, testing and calibration.
Experience of product and service integration and at least one engineering domain, with knowledge of associated or contributory domains
Detailed knowledge/understanding of RSAF operations and requirements at KAAB
Practical in-service support experience on the Tornado platform
Good knowledge of the SBDCP support chain from Vendor to RSAF Operator
Experience of technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders and commercial contact with customers, partners and suppliers
Extensive understanding of engineering and quality standards.
Understanding of financial management.
